Downtown Greenville and the Staycation…
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008Well, it’s official! My wife and I are “America’s Hosts”. Last year, I think we spent 5 weekends all summer without overnight guests. This year, we’re already nearly booked!
I guess the crazy gas prices are part of the reason; Monnie and I have talked several times about the popularity of the STAYCATION this year because nobody can afford to drive very far. However, I have another idea that I think explains my family’s popularity better than gas prices or my incredible, personal magnetism.
Downtown Greenville.
Yup. To a person, our out-of-town visitors have been charmed “off their feet” by our beautiful downtown area. To be sure, much of the Upstate is very charming, but the thing about our region that our friends and family have focused on more than any other during their visits is “downtown”. And not just the well-manicured park, or the tree-lined streets and outdoor cafes either, but the fun vibe of the crowds that gather has also seemed to win our guests over. One of our favorite couples from Knoxville, TN was amazed that there seemed to always be, “so much fun stuff to do!” (By the way, that couple has already booked the first weekend in June! Sorry.)
I guess the reason that I bring it up is just to brag on our city a little bit, and to let you step back and see Downtown Greenville in a fresh light- through the eyes of visitors. And for this reason too; with Staycations (Day Trips) being so popular this year, maybe the best place to start your staycation planning is the place closest to home.
And if you’re interested in booking your Staycation with us, you’d better call quick… we’re filling up fast!
